Skydiver’s chute fails to open
A parachutist has been taken to hospital in a serious condition after his chute failed to open properly.
Emergency services said the man, in his 30s, landed heavily at Barwon Heads, south west of Melbourne, before midday.
He suffered injuries to his head, abdomen, pelvis and legs.
The accident happened a day after a female skydiver was killed and a man was left in a serious conditionfollowing a jump in Byron Bay, New South Wales.
Police said they believed their parachutes had become entangled.
The pair landed heavily at an airstrip off the Pacific Highway at Tyagarah at about 3:30pm, police said.
