Thredbo survivor Stuart Diver struck by tragedy again

Thredbo landslide survivor Stuart Diver has asked for privacy as he mourns for his second wife Rosanna, who has died from breast cancer.

His first wife Sally, died in the ski resort disaster 18 years ago.

Rosanna Cossettini died on the weekend after a 13-year battle with the disease.

Children and tragedy: how to help them cope

“Stuart Diver and his extended family have requested privacy and respect for their loss at this time,” said a statement released on Tuesday on behalf Mr Diver.

The 45-year-old landslide survivor met Rosanna two years after the NSW Snowy Mountains disaster.

He credited Rosanna with helping him through the tragic loss of Sally, who was among 18 people who died in the landslide.

The couple married in 2002 and lived at Thredbo, where they owned and operated a B&B for several years.

Rosanna was diagnosed with advanced breast cancer just three weeks after their wedding.

Despite being told Rosanna would be unable to have children, their daughter Alessia was born in 2010.

Mr Diver was the lone survivor of the Thredbo disaster when two ski lodges were crushed by a landslide at the popular ski resort just before midnight on July 30, 1997.

The ski instructor was freed from the ruins after more than 60 hours trapped beneath the freezing rubble.

The McGrath Foundation has sent condolences to the Diver family.

“Our thoughts are with Stuart Diver & family & friends of wife Rosanna after her passing from secondary breast cancer,” it said in a Twitter message.
