Tennis star Bernard Tomic allegedly bragged to a teenage girl about having $50,000 worth of cocaine while at a nightclub owner’s penthouse apartment, court documents have revealed.

The girl made the claims during the trial of Gold Coast nightclub owner Jamie Pickering, who stands accused of supplying cocaine to minors.

Mr Tomic, 22, and Mr Pickering became friends after the tennis player began frequenting his nightclubs, with the club owner a frequent spectator at his tennis matches.

According to the Gold Coast Bulletin, Magistrate Ron Kilner said the four underage girls knew they were taking cocaine because Tomic told them so.

“The only exception to that statement was when Bernard Tomic stated to her on one occasion that he had $50,000 worth of cocaine,” Mr Kilner said during proceedings.

Mr Pickering strongly denied that Tomic used illicit drugs, and told the Gold Coast Bulletin the comments, if made, would have been a joke.

“If it was said, I know it was in jest,” Mr Pickering said.

“I know for a fact he doesn’t touch anything or even go near it. She says he said that — it’s just a joke and it’s obviously gone the wrong way.”

Mr Pickering said Tomic would have told the girl he had cocaine out of “puffery”, and said he was trying to call the athlete to let him know about the claims made against him.

Tomic is currently overseas ahead of the Indian Indian Wells tournament in California where he is 32nd seed.

Police told the Gold Coast Bulletin no charges had ever been considered against him.

The young tennis star drew controversy in 2013 after he was photographed shirtless receiving a lap dance at Mr Pickering’s SinCity nightclub.
