Gina Rinehart’s big night in
Gina Rinehart has been handed a DVD of the second episode of House of Hancock to help her decide whether she’ll try to stop it airing on Sunday night.
The mining magnate won the right to an early viewing at a Sydney court on Friday evening during her bid to stop the Nine Network mini-series being aired.
It was unclear on Friday night whether Ms Rinehart and her lawyers had made an application to stop the broadcast after having viewed the episode.
Justice Peter Garling said Ms Rinehart’s lawyers must let the Nine Network know if they will try to stop the show by 9.15pm on Friday so a hearing can take place at midday on Saturday.
Barrister Tom Blackburn SC said that Ms Rinehart held concerns the episode contained injurious falsehoods, was defamatory and breached consumer law.
But Nine Network barrister Peter Gray SC said material in the episode was already in the public domain and had been “exhaustively traversed”.
He said the granting of such orders would impinge on freedom of speech.
