The Liberal Party is rapidly losing support from voters in South Australia as Premier Jay Weatherill and the Labor government surge ahead in the polls.

According to a Newspoll published in Wednesday’s Australian, Labor now leads Liberal on a two-party-preferred basis, 53 to 47 per cent.

This is in stark contrast to a March Newspoll when the Liberal Party led on a two-party-preferred basis, 53 to 47 per cent.

Labor Premier Jay Weatherill is also preferred to Liberal leader Steven Marshall by a large margin, 47 to 29 per cent.

The major party primary votes are still neck-and-neck, however, with Labor on 35 per cent and Liberal on 33 per cent, as voter support shifts to independent parties.

Support for minor parties and independents is now at 22 per cent, up from 10 per cent at the March election.

The Liberal primary vote has plummeted from 44 per cent in March to 33 per cent in December, while Labor’s primary vote has remained steady at around 35 per cent.

The Greens primary vote is improved from the March election, up from 8.7 per cent to 10 per cent.
