Four homes have been destroyed as bushfires burn uncontrolled across northern Victoria.

Three homes were lost in Creightons Creek, near Euroa on Wednesday, a CFA spokesman said.

It included a home that was earlier destroyed in Gooram.

Another house was lost at Lake Rowan, near Wangaratta.

The 120 residents of the small town of Creightons Creek were being evacuated as a precaution.

“That evacuation is a precautionary attempt to make sure that as the fire moves around later today that people are not caught flat-footed,” Emergency Management Commissioner Craig Lapsley told reporters.

A CFA spokesman said although conditions were easing the Longwood blaze was still out of control.

A watch and act message is in place for the blaze, south of Euroa, affecting the areas of Ruffy, Old Longwood, Longwood East, Gooram and Creightons Creek.

Another watch and act message is in place for the Lake Rowan fire near Wangaratta. The 6800ha blaze is out of control and slowly travelling east within the Warby Ranges.

More than 350 fires have sparked since Monday, mainly caused by lightning in the state’s northeast but only a small number remain uncontrolled.

A smaller blaze at West Wodonga has been concerning authorities because it is six kilometres from houses.

“That’s a fire of small size but (the) location is very significant,” Mr Lapsley said.

“If that fire runs, it runs into residential property on the outskirts of Wodonga.”

Earlier, two people reported missing from one premises, in the Longwood fire, were accounted for.

A fire also forced three schools to close in the Stewarton area with 47 students kept home.

A total of 1400 firefighters are battling blazes across the state.
