A land and air search is underway for a German tourist lost in bushland near Kununurra in Western Australia’s Kimberley region without food or water.

The 22-year-old man made an emergency call to police just before 7:30pm (WST) last night.

He had become disoriented on a walking track at Packsaddle Springs about 30km from Kununurra.

Police said he had no food or water with him, and had been unable to find his way back to his vehicle.

Police went to the area last night and used emergency lights on their vehicle to try to find him, to no avail.

“At one point the missing person believed he could see the lights over a hill, however there were no tracks between him and the police vehicle in the distance,” a police spokesman said.

“Further attempts were made to find a way into where the man was, including liaising with local community members about potential tracks, however no clear path could be identified.”

A helicopter is being used in the search today, and volunteers from the State Emergency Service are searching on foot.
