Construction company Grocon has been fined $250,000 over a wall collapse in Melbourne’s CBD that killed three people.

Siblings Alexander and Bridget Jones and Frenchwoman Marie-Faith Fiawoo were killed when a 15-metre section of brick wall fell on Swanston Street in March last year.

Grocon pleaded guilty to one count of failing to ensure a safe workplace, and faced a maximum fine of $305,000.

Magistrate Charles Rozencwajg said every member of the public had been placed at risk as a result of the failure to ensure a safe workplace.

The court previously heard Grocon Victoria Street contracted Aussie Signs Pty Ltd to attach advertising hoarding to the wall which the prosecution said increased the chances the wall would collapse, but did not cause it.
