A 33-year-old man has been arrested after leading police on an hour-long car chase through Sydney.

Police were responding to an argument at a unit in the suburb of Kensington this morning when they found a woman, 33, with multiple stab wounds.

A man then left the scene and officers began pursuing him at Mortdale in Sydney’s south.

He led officers through the M5, M7 and M2 highways before reaching the Gore Hill freeway.

Police deployed road spikes at the freeway which significantly slowed the car down.

The driver continued to lead the pursuing police cars across the Harbour Bridge on flat tyres.

Police say the man was travelling through the city at 5 to 10 kilometres per hour.

The pursuit ended outside the Surry Hills police station, where police put a chemical agent through the car’s front window.

The man was arrested and taken in for questioning.

Detectives say they are looking into the nature of the relationship between the man and woman.
