Liberals set for thrashing in Victoria: poll

The Victorian Labor Party looks set to take out the state election in four weeks time, with the state Coalition government trailing by almost 10 basis points in the latest polls.

According to the latest Fairfax Ipsos poll, the Napthine government lags behind Labor on a two-party-preferred basis, with a large margin of 44 to 56 per cent.

Labor ranks ahead on a number of measures, with those polled saying it was the best party to manage health, education, employment, public transport and the environment.

Despite his party trailing, Premier Denis Napthine is still preferred leader, ahead of Opposition Leader Daniel Andrews, 45 to 36 per cent.

The Coalition government also has a higher primary vote, 39 to 37 per cent, but this figure is significantly lower than their vote of 45 per cent at the 2010 election.

Victorian voters appear to be turning away from the two major parties, with the Greens seeing a surge in their primary vote from 11 per cent to 17 per cent since the last election.
