Royal hoax DJ Mel Greig bemoans trolling

Radio host Mel Greig has spoken about the death threats she received after 2DayFM’s 2012 prank call to a hospital treating Kate Middleton, saying the “trolling needs to stop”.

A British nurse committed suicide after she put through the prank call from Grieg who pretended to be the Queen while Middleton was in hospital with morning sickness.

• ‘First to Jacintha’s family, I am so sorry for your loss’
• Nurse ‘scanned the net’

“The trolling and the death threats were disgusting,” Greig told BBC television.

“There were bullets with our name on it sent to police stations.”

The 32-year-old said the worst moment was when her mother was threatened by anonymous trolls.

“When you bring my mother into it, and I didn’t want to cry, but it’s just … that’s the difference and that’s unnecessary.

Greig apologised at an inquest into nurse Jacintha Saldanha’s death last month and says she will always feel partly responsible.

“My name was in someone’s suicide note,” the DJ told Woman’s Day in Australia on Monday.

“Nothing will change the fact that Jacintha thought of me before she took her own life and that is something that is really hard to come to terms with.”
