Sexism limiting Aussie women
Young women in Australia are turning their back on a life in politics with almost half saying that sexism affects what career path they choose.
An Auspoll survey of 1000 women aged between 14 and 25, commissioned by Plan International Australia, shows women believe sexist attitudes in Australia are on the rise.

Only one per cent of Australian women dream of a job in politics, with 49 per cent saying sexism determined which career they pursued.
Three quarters of young women and girls said they were routinely subjected to sexist comments, 12 per cent coming from strangers.
Plan International Australia CEO Ian Wishart said he was shocked by the results.
“The fact that fewer than one per cent of them dream of a life in politics does not bode well for a future in which women can take their places in the corridors of power,” he said.
The poll comes in the lead up to the United Nation’s International Day of the Girl on October 11, which aims to end gender-based violence and child marriage.
