LNP make QLD poll comeback

The Liberal National Party comfortably leads in the Queensland polls after experiencing a massive comeback in the past three months, latest Newspoll figures reveal.

The poll conducted for The Australian shows the Campbell Newman government has gone from trailing Labor to comfortably leading 54 per cent to 46 per cent on a two-party-preferred basis.

• Labor has eyes on Newman’s Brisbane seat of Ashgrove
• Palmer sues Newman for $1.1m

The party’s primary vote has also swelled from a low 32 per cent to 39 per cent.

The five per cent swing comes after Labor thumped the Newman government in a June by-election for the Brisbane seat of Stafford.

Premier Newman still faces an almost record-low satisfaction level of 35 per cent, with his seat of Ashgrove reportedly on a knife edge.

The LNP gains have come at the cost of independents and the Palmer United Party, who experienced a collective drop of six percent in the primary vote.
