A Ukrainian politician has been thrown into a rubbish bin during an angry protest outside Ukrainian parliament.

Video footage of the incident shows Member of Parliament Vitaliy Zhuravskiy being ushered to a large refuse bin by a group of men before being thrown in headfirst.

He is then held down by the protestors as he attempts to escape.

The video, which has been uploaded online in two parts, was filmed outside the Ukrainian parliament, Verkhovna Rada.

Mr Zhuravskiy became stuck in the bin before being rescued by a team of camouflaged police who broke through a melee of onlookers to pull him out.

According to The Independent, Mr Zhuraskiy has not yet filed a formal police complaint.
