Balcony death: murder charges laid

Gable Tostee, the man charged with the high-rise murder of a New Zealand tourist, has been remanded in custody.

Tostee, of Surfers Paradise, was not in the Southport Magistrates Court this morning but was represented by his solicitor, Michael Purcell.

The 28-year-old is accused of murdering Warriena Wright, who allegedly fell from the 14th floor of an apartment complex in the early hours of August 8.

Police initially spoke with Tostee and yesterday afternoon charged him with murder.

The magistrate remanded Tostee to appear before court again on Friday October 10.

The brief of evidence was to be disclosed by the end of next month.

Outside the court Mr Purcell said his client maintained his innocence.
