Miss World mysteriously withdraws

A finalist in Miss World Australia has withdrawn from the contest at the last minute, saying that she doesn’t support the “disrespectful treatment of women”.

Twenty-four-year-old Stephanie Campbell from Brisbane said that she withdrew from the competition on Saturday afternoon before Sunday night’s crowning, according to a Nine News report.

“Good luck to the girls who still think the title has value and are competing for it at the crowning event tonight. May the odds be ever in their favour,” wrote Campbell.

“I only support organisations I believe in … I do not condone abusive and disrespectful treatment of women.”

It is unclear why Campbell withdrew from the contest, with Campbell ignoring calls from Miss World Australia.

Fellow Queenslander Courtney Thorpe won the competition and will now prepare for the international final in London.
