Cyclist hurt in hit and run
A cyclist has been knocked off her bicycle and seriously injured in a hit-run at Frankston, in Melbourne’s south-east.
Police said the 46-year-old woman was cycling on the Nepean Highway near Wells Street just before 11am when a driver suddenly veered into her path from the road’s middle lane.
The driver left the woman lying injured on the road, before pulling into a car park and then driving off, police said.
Police said witnesses tried to chase the driver on foot without success.
Detectives believed the car was a late-model white Holden commodore station wagon.
They have taken the woman’s bicycle for forensic examination.
The Frankston woman was taken to the Alfred hospital with suspected spinal injuries and is in a stable condition.
