Auschwitz selfie teen: no regrets after backlash

An American teenager who caused outrage after tweeting a selfie taken at Auschwitz death camp says that she wouldn’t do anything differently.

Breanna Mitchell from Alabama received abuse for posting the image, which was shared over 3,000 times, but says that she doesn’t understand why it offended anyone.

“Honestly, I don’t think I would do anything differently, because I didn’t mean any harm,” she said, “And, like, I told everybody my story behind it, so that’s the only reason I don’t regret taking it,” said Ms Mitchell in an interview.

According to a report by Gawker, the teen says she wasn’t ignorant of the history of Auschwitz, and actually studied the Holocaust with her father who had since passed away.

She said that she had made the trip there in his memory on the anniversary of his death.

“He died a year ago, so that trip actually meant something to me and I was happy about it,” she said.
