Scott Rush, one of the convicted Bali Nine drug smugglers sentenced to life, has proposed to a married London banker he knew for just one day before being arrested.

Rush was arrested in 2005 at the age of 19 for trying to smuggle 1.3 kilograms of heroin strapped to his body out of Bali, and was sentenced to life in prison.

Nikki Butler, a married mother of two from London, met Rush in Bali where they spent a day together before he was arrested, according to a Courier Mail report.

The pair lost contact until Butler saw a picture of Rush on television eight years later and decided to fly to Bali to visit him in prison.

Rush, now 28, proposed to Butler after she visited him several times in Bali.

“It just feels like the right thing. I don’t want to be with anybody else,” Butler told the Courier Mail of her decision to marry Rush.

The 38 year-old is now in the process of divorcing her husband and says that she loves Rush, who is a “really, really beautiful person.”

Rush said he is trying to turn his life around and plans to become an anti-drugs ambassador.
