Australia’s richest person Gina Rinehart has called her children John and Bianca selfish at the end of a week-long trial over the $5 billion Hancock family trust.

The mining magnate fired off a stinging statement after Justice Paul Brereton reserved his judgment over who should run the lucrative trust.

“I have always worked in the best interests of our family company and my record shows I have turned Hancock Prospecting into one of the most successful private companies in the country, which is of benefit to all my children given their interest via the trust I requested be set up for them,” Ms Rinehart told AAP.

“Hard work, sacrifice and immense dedication, not short-term gambles in hope of quick easy money has got us here with the help of a dedicated but very small executive team.

“This has become a company this family should be genuinely very proud of, as my daughter Ginia is, not attacked or distracted for selfish reasons in public litigation.”

Gina Rinehart’s eldest daughter Bianca and her son John Hancock believe Bianca is the best person to take control of the trust.

However the youngest child Ginia Rinehart, who is believed to be siding with her mother, wants an independent trustee appointed instead of her sister.

Gina Rinehart is unable to nominate a trustee because she is not a beneficiary.

The lawyer for Bianca and Mr Hancock, Christopher Withers, accused Ginia of being her mother’s puppet on Friday in the NSW Supreme Court

“There is no way Ginia would take steps against her mother,” he said.

This was denied by Ginia’s lawyer.

“There’s no basis on which your honour will find my client beholden to her mother’s wishes,” he said.

Bianca’s half sister Hope has pulled out of the long running and bitter dispute.
