Schumacher’s medical notes on sale

Formula One legend Michael Schumacher’s medical records have been stolen and offered for sale, according to his manager.

A brief statement issued by the German’s spokesman, Sabine Kehm, said that both the purchase and the publication of such “confidential” dossiers will lead to criminal charges, according to the Daily Mail.

The documents have been touted for sale by someone who claims it to be the genuine medical notes of Schumacher, who has been in hospital since December 29 last year after a horrific skiing accident.

Ms Kehm said the documents have been missing for “several days” and the data is being offered for sale.

“The offerer claims them to be the medical file of Michael Schumacher,” Ms Kehm said.

‘We cannot judge if these documents are authentic. However, the documents are clearly stolen. The theft has been reported. The authorities are involved,” she said.

‘We expressly advise that both the purchase and the publication of such documents and data is forbidden. The contents of any medical files are totally private and confidential and must not made available to the public.

‘We will therefore, in every single case, press for criminal charges and damages against any publication of the content or reference to the medical file. We trust for your understanding.’

Schumacher, 45, suffered his life-threatening accident, during his holiday with family and friends in Meribel, where he owns a chalet.

On Monday his manager Sabine Kehm announced that he was no longer in a coma and had been transferred to University Hospital Lausanne from Grenoble Hospital, in France, where he will undergo a lengthy rehabilitation regime.

He is unable to talk or walk, with some reports, suggesting he continues to slip in and out of consciousness.
