50 Shades of Delay

Fans waiting to get their big screen fix of Fifty Shades of Grey will now have to wait until Valentine’s Day 2015.

Universal Pictures has announced it would move the release date from August next year, to February 13, 2015.

The move follows the delay of production of the highly anticipated big screen adaptation by a month and the much publicised switch of leading man, with the film date postponed six months.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly Universal Pictures chairman Donna Langley said the change was to avoid the competition of the crowded Northern Hemisphere summer release schedule.

“The strength of this book is really worldwide, so we want to be able to take advantage of women who are invariably on vacation with their families during the month of August in Europe,” Ms Langley said.

She said the delay had nothing to do with the change of lead actor.

Jamie Dornan has picked up the lead role of Christian Grey after Charlie Hunnam pulled out.

Dornan and Ana Steele actress Dakota Johnson have appeared in a series of steamy photos also published by EW – the first character shots.
