Christmas has come early for the owners of a Melbourne mansion that sold for $26.5 million – beating the previous price record for Victoria.

The four-bedroom house at 9 Towers Road, Toorak, was owned by Melbourne couple Daniel and Danielle Besen and reportedly cost more than $20 million to build.

The couple, well-known entrepreneurs and arts patrons, are members of the billionaire rich-list family behind women’s clothing label Sussan.

A Toorak local snapped up the house, which has yet to be lived in, amid competition from seven other local families, reported Domain.

Resembling a modern art museum, the oval-shaped residence comes complete with a media room, gallery, library, six-car garage, library, heated pool and “wine lounge”.

Set on a 2300sqm block, the house is windowless from the outside, providing complete privacy on the corner of two of Melbourne’s most sought-after streets.

Each bedroom comes with its own en suite and huge walk-in wardrobe.

The pad hit the market in October with a list price of $30 million, and despite failing to hit that target, it did supersede the $26 million sale of clifftop Portsea house Ilyuka in 2010.

It also beat the previous record for a Melbourne property – held by the Smorgon family’s $24.1 million mansion in Robertson Street, Toorak.

Real estate agent Marshall White described the property as an “architectural icon without peer”.
