Young, wild and wealthy: richest young Aussies revealed

Australia’s richest young millionaires have been revealed, with tech nerds ruling the BRW 2014 Young Rich list.

Former University of NSW students and Atlassian software co-founders Mike Cannon-Brookes and Scott Faquhar take out the number one and two spots, with a combined wealth of $2.1 billion.

Also included in the top 10 are Kogan.com creator Ruslan Kogan ($349 million) and Scoopon co-founder Hezi Leibovich ($213 million).

Cannon-Brookes and Faquhar have come a long way since their early days when they their company with a $10,000 credit card loan.

Kogan also began his million dollar business in humble circumstances, selling TVs out of his parents’ Melbourne garage in 2006.

Carman’s Muesli founder Carolyn Creswell is the top-placed woman on the list, coming in at number 25 with a personal fortune of $83 million.

Other famous women on the list include supermodel Miranda Kerr ($24 million) and MyBudget founder Tammy May ($26 million).

Singer-songwriter Sia, who has worked with artists like Beyonce and Rihanna, is a surprising addition to the list, debuting at number 97 with a personal wealth of $20 million.

Sportspeople also make an appearance in the top 50, with soccer player Harry Kewell and formula one driver Mark Webber coming in at number 37 and 38 with fortunes of $52 million each.

The average age of people on the list was 36 while the average wealth was $83 million.

The youngest person on the list is Nick D’Alosio who, at the age of 18, is already worth $23 million after creating news reading app Summly in 2011.

Technology was by far the wealthiest sector on the list, followed by sport, services, retail, property, entertainment, financial services, investment, resources, manufacturing, healthcare, wholesaling and telecommunications.

9. Hezi Leibovich: The Catch Group co-founder – $213 million

10. & 11. Gavin Fernandez and George Nakas: True Value Solar co-founders – $188 million
