A new US study has identified the top 10 endangered jobs of 2014, predicting dire employment opportunities for postmen, travel agents and farmers.

Changes in technology mean that once reliable occupations are becoming increasingly obsolete, according to a Fairfax report.

The study by American job search site Career Cast forecasts an expect decline in employment opportunities for several occupations up to the year 2022.

The most endangered jobs of 2014 are postman, farmer, meter reader, newspaper reporter, travel agent, forestry worker, flight attendant, drill-press operator, printing worker and tax examiner.

According to the study, the internet has made the job of postmen, newspaper reporters and travel agents redundant.

In June, consultancy firm Deloitte reported that 18 of Australia’s key industries face ‘significant disruption’ from progress in digital technology.

Sectors in the report include finance, retail, media, real estate and information technology.
