Mattel’s View-Master, a ghost of Christmas past for many of us over the age of 30, is receiving a reboot with the help of Google.

The View-Master was launched as a toy in the 1960s and quickly became a hit, using cardboard discs containing image slides that could be cycled through.

Mattel sold more than 1.5 billion reels for the View-Master over the years, and over 100 million View-Masters in total.

The new View-Master will use the Google Cardboard platform, and is a holder for your smart phone with lenses that will divide the device’s images into two.

The View-Master has been branded ‘virtual reality for kids’ and the device bears a strong resemblance to the original product.
