NSW Police have dropped their investigation into allegations Taylor Swift’s father assaulted a photographer during the singer’s visit to Sydney last month.

Police said on Wednesday that no further action would be taken after an investigation into allegations that Scott Swift assaulted a paparazzo at a Sydney wharf in an early morning fracas.

“Officers attached to North Shore Police Area Command have conducted an investigation following a report of an assault at Neutral Bay wharf,” a police spokesperson said on Wednesday.

“No further police action [will be taken].”

Mr Swift, 71, was accused of assaulting 51-year-old Ben McDonald at Neutral Bay wharf about 2.30am just hours after the pop star’s seventh and final sold-out show in Australia.

Neither required medical attention and Mr Swift left the location after the incident, police were told.

McDonald, the chief executive of Matrix Media Group, identified himself as the paparazzo involved, saying he had been photographing Swift as she got off a super-yacht. He said he was initially pushed with umbrellas by Swift’s bodyguards.

“Then her dad decided to add to the mix and throw a punch in,” McDonald alleged at the time, according to The Sydney Morning Herald.

Mr Swift rejected the allegation through his daughter’s publicist.

“Two individuals were aggressively pushing their way towards Taylor, grabbing at her security personnel, and threatening to throw a female staff member into the water,” spokeswoman Tree Paine said.

McDonald reported the alleged assault to police, sparking the investigation.

Swift’s father was allowed to leave Sydney in late February, while the police investigation continued.
