A Melbourne man has pledged to eat only potatoes for a whole year, and has already lost 10 kilos in the first month.

At 151 kilos, self-confessed binge eater Andrew Taylor designed the ‘Spud Fit’ challenge to change the way he approached food.

Starting in January, Taylor vowed to eat nothing but spuds and a variety of sauces and seasonings to flavour them.

But there’s no oil or deep frying allowed – just boiling, steaming and dry frying,

Taylor says the experiment has already helped change the way he eats, and any weight loss has been an added bonus.

“No more gorging, no more over-eating, no more eating until I could burst,” he said in one of his YouTube entries.

“I’ve stopped seeing food as a way to get comfort and pleasure. These days it’s about putting some fuel in the tank.”

One month in, the Elwood father of one claims he’s down 10 kilos and feeling great, despite existing on nothing but spuds and sauces.

“I thought I’d be sick of potatoes by now but I’m not,” he said.

“In the first week I lost seven kilos, which was huge, then since then I’ve lost one kilo per week.”

Not wanting to get bored, Taylor has shopped around, using powdered sweet potato flour with barbeque sauce.

Taylor says he is being supervised by a doctor and a qualified dietician, and is having regular blood tests to keep an eye on his health.

He said he is feeling energised, is exercising more and plans to eventually attempt a spud-fuelled marathon.
