The latest version of the durable camera, Hero4 Session, is half the size and almost half the weight than previous Hero4 versions.

It will reportedly hit shelves on June 12 at a price of $579.95.

It will not need a case to be waterproof and will withstand up to 10m of water, unlike 1m or 2m for the other units.

GoPro founder and CEO Nicholas Woodman said the aim was convenience.

“(We) challenged ourselves to produce the smallest, lightest, most convenient GoPro possible,” he said in a statement.

The camera will be able to capture high definition (HD) footage at 1440p and 1080p, as well as 720p slow-motion clips.

It can also take still photos at 8 megapixel quality at 10 frames per second in burst mode, or in time-lapse mode of up to 0.5 frame per second.
