Get stylish: Autumn home makeover tips

There are plenty of simple, practical ways to make sure you keep your home looking trendy, stylish and warm when sprucing-up your place this autumn.

Metricon interior designer Hannah Joosse says autumn – the start of the change in seasons – is ideal for a spot of cleaning.

“Try rearranging furniture and ornaments in your home to update your room with things you already
 have,” Ms Joosse suggests.

“It’s also a great way to change the focal point in the room to make it
 feel as good as new.”

Shades of grey

The interior expert points out that grey tones are a popular option this season.

“They (grey tones) can be warmed up with pantone colour of the year -
 Marsala,” she says.

“Combining these colours with the on-trend use of coppers and metallic tones
is a sure way to update your home in the latest style.

“The recent move to coppers and metallic colours is a great way to add an earthy touch to the room while still having a little bit of subtle yet classy bling.”

Felts, linens, wools and leather help add warmth and texture to a room.

Ms Joosse believes that not only does updating your home for the season keep it stylish and on trend,
it keeps it practical.

The introduction of cosy throw rugs is another worthwhile approach which will help householder cope
with those cold winter nights.

“Layer up on throws and blankets,” she advises. “Not only do they make the room feel, cosy, but they serve a purpose by keeping you warm at night.

“Felts, linens, wools and leather are great ways of adding warmth and texture to a room while keeping
the room still feeling natural. They also tie in perfectly with the copper and metallic tones.”

Bring the outdoors inside

Given that cold, sometimes overcast days will be a feature in the southern states for the next few months,
it’s important to add some life to communal living areas.

“Fresh flowers and leafy arrangements are a great way of lifting a room up to add a sense of
freshness,” Ms Joosse says.
