Brace yourself, sequel to podcast ‘Serial’ is coming

Serial fans suffering withdrawals can fnow fill the void left by the popular podcast thanks to a new spin-off series from one of the series’ key players.

Rabia Chaudry, the lawyer who featured prominently in Serial‘s retelling of the 1999 murder of Maryland teenager Hae Min Lee, has announced the launch of a podcast called Undisclosed: The State v. Adnan Syed.

Launching on April 13, the podcast is set to “pick up where Serial left off”, revisiting the case of Lee’s convicted murderer Adnan Syed, who has consistently maintained his innocence.

Serial’s Jay: how the podcast changed my life

Chaudry, an attorney and family friend of Syed, worked closely with Serial host and creator Sarah Koenig to provide details of the compelling murder case.

According a post on Chaudry’s blog, the new show will see her team up with fellow attorneys Susan Simpson and Colin Miller to provide “more in depth analysis, guest experts, and a closer look at the evidence and documents in the case”.

In contrast to Serial, which saw Koenig retell the story with suspense and expression, Undisclosed “will examine and explore the case in greater detail, from an investigatory perspective instead of a narrative one”.

“Why a podcast? Well, as I traveled and did my talks I realized that most people who heard Serial stopped following the case there,” Chaudry said.

“We hope people enjoy the ear-candy!”

Chaudry still regularly visits Syed, who is currently serving a life sentence for murdering Lee – his high school girlfriend.

Serial pulled tens of thousands of listeners each week and earned Syed a significant following who have since actively campaigned for his release.
