Passengers on a Delta Airlines flight from Atlanta to New York were left shaken after their plane skidded off the runway during landing in the middle of a heavy snowstorm.

Flight 1086 was attempting to touch down at New York’s LaGuardia airport on Thursday when it was obscured by heavy snow, prompting air traffic control to lose track of its position.

Thankfully, the plane was stopped by a fence, part of the runway’s mechanism for preventing planes from sliding off the end of the runway and into the waters of Flushing Bay.

The 127 passengers and five crew members on board were safely evacuated, with only one person taken to hospital with minor injuries.

“We have all been evacuated. Everyone is safe. Thank you for your prayers. God is good,” passenger Jaime Primak tweeted.

The New York Police Department also reported a minor oil spill as a result of the crash.

As a result of the extreme weather, 256 flights out of LaGuardia were cancelled and 34 were delayed.

New York is currently experiencing temperatures of around -5 degrees Celsius, while tens of thousands of Americans are losing power nationwide due to heavy storms.
