The eventual buyers of this home won’t have to go far to give praise to the Almighty for their purchase.

They will simply have to step inside the one-time church at 25 Percy Street to give thanks if they are so inclined.

Built in 1855, the two-storey house/church was for 140 years the spiritual home for this Geelong suburb’s Church of England adherents.

But in 1995 the current owner, a local mechanical engineer, bought the ivy-covered building and converted it into residential accommodation the following year.

The run-down building’s exterior and interior were “meticulously restored’’. There are even two pews as permanent reminders of the building’s past.

While it retains the bluestone brick exterior of the old Anglican house of worship, inside it has all the trappings of a contemporary home including a gleaming kitchen and features such as ducted gas heating.

Its sense of light and space is enhanced by the large open-plan living areas, high timber ceilings, multiple ornamental windows and polished hardwood floorboards.

Lee Botsios, a senior associate with Fletchers Bellarine, says the home, which is located on a 504sqm block, is a unique blend of old world charm and modern touches.

“The vendor was originally looking for a warehouse-type property until this became available and he immediately bought it after inspection,” Mr Botsios says.

He says prospective homebuyers will be impressed by the warehouse-style fit-out. They will also like the suspended jarrah staircase, which leads to two large mezzanine bedrooms.

The sales agent says prospective homebuyers will note the property is “in quiet street with a large park directly across the road”.

And when it comes to services, the property is just down the road from Pakington Street, which is “famous for its cafes, shops and restaurants” and only a five-minute car trip to Geelong’s central business district.

Mr Botsios says potential buyers have shown “good interest” in the property.

“The recent interest has been broad from investors and holidaymakers to growing families seeking space and location, with that individual and unique touch,’’ he says.

“The home would also appeal to a professional couple looking to escape the grind of everyday living.”
