Comedian Dave Hughes is the second big name within a week to quit Channel 9 for a rival network, where he is set to host his own ‘Agony Uncle’ advice program next year.

Hughes announced his new show Hughesy, We Have A Problem would air on Channel 10 in 2018 on his Instagram page on Sunday.

The panel show boasts Hughes and his “comedy buddies” dealing with the problems of everyday Aussies.

“Hit the set for the first time yesterday,” he said in the post, adding the hashtag “stoked”.

Hughes is the second star presenter to leave the Nine Network for Channel 10 this week.

He followed veteran journalist and host Lisa Wilkinson, who quit Today after 10 years to join The Project next year.

Wilkinson will initially join The Project in a hosting role, including fronting the newly launched The Sunday Project.

Backlash mounted against Nine about Wilkinson’s defection to the Ten program – reportedly after Nine refused to match her salary to co-host Karl Stefanovic.

Hughes will leave the embattled The Footy Show after joining the program for the 2015 season. He remained a regular panel member until the end of 2017.

“I am out of contract with Channel 9 and this Channel 10 deal is going to mean I can’t be a regular on a rival network during the term of the deal which is up until mid next year, which means I could not be a regular on The Footy Show,” Hughes told The Daily Telegraph.

The comedian is no stranger to Channel 10, adding comedic commentary on Rove Live, The Project and the now defunct AFL program Before The Game.

Hughes told The Daily Telegraph that Channel 10 had commissioned eight episodes for the modern-day ‘Agony Uncle’ program.

“It could be anything from ‘My wife wants to catch up with her ex, is that OK?’ to ‘My friend’s kid is too rough with my kid’ or ‘I’m on Tinder and I’m not getting swiped’,” Hughes said.

Hughes will also join a new radio station, moving from KIIS FM to the Hit Network with co-host Kate Langbroek to host the national Drive shift in 2018.

In an expression of solidarity, the comedian recently made headlines after taking a pay cut to ensure his co-host received pay parity.

Langbroek said she had found out Hughes received 40 per cent more in 2016 and raised the pay gap in negotiations with her bosses.

Channel 10’s star talent acquisitions follow US media giant CBS purchasing the struggling network for $40 million in September.

News Corp’s Lachlan Murdoch and WIN’s Bruce Gordon failed in a joint bid for the network’s business and assets.

The deal has been mooted to be a good result for viewers, with the new owners expected to spend money to improve offerings and add a list of hit shows to the schedule.
