Canberra radio presenter Ryan Jon simply wants to say “thank you” to the biological mum he never met.

In a touching Mother’s Day video message posted on Facebook, which has since been shared by more than four million people, the Hit 104.7 breakfast show host speaks about his adoption and how he would one day like to find her.

“I’d love to be able to look my birth mother in the eye and just say how thankful I am for literally everything,” he says in the video through tears.

“Every year around Mother’s Day I get the same sort of tricky conundrum going on in my mind.

“I’ve heard a lot of stories where women who have given up kids for adoption feel really guilty and sometimes it’s seen as like a cowardly thing … but as someone who was adopted it’s the total opposite.

“You’ve given someone the gift of life. You’ve sacrificed your body, your life for someone who in 12 months you won’t even know them.”

Jon admitted he was “scared” to look for someone who might not necessarily want to be found or create any awkward scenarios for his mother or her potential new family.

“She wasn’t quite ready to be a mother when she had me but I hope she grew up, met someone, got married and now has a family of their own,” he says.

“I don’t want to be the skeleton in the closet, I don’t want to create any awkward conversations or situations for her.

“She gave me my life and I feel like the least I could do is let her live hers.”

The video has been viewed more than 4.2 million times as of Wednesday night, and while the 29-year-old has trepidations about meeting his birth mum, he says he’d like to.

“Yeah I guess, I’m curious. I’ve heard so many great stories this week about people who have met their biological family and they say ‘I’ve never seen anybody who looks like me before’ or ‘I’ve never met someone with my own blood’ and suddenly they meet them and it’s a pretty amazing experience,” he told Network Ten’s The Project on Wednesday night.

“The stories people have told me about meeting, it sounds pretty good but I don’t want to get my hopes up so I’m just trying to keep a bit cautious.”

“I don’t expect anything from you, I don’t need anything from you or contact me,” Jon ended.

“I just wanted to say thank you for everything, and I hope you have a great Mother’s Day.”
