Cate Blanchett’s red-carpet week of eye-popping fashion goofs and gaffes

Cate Blanchett, or ‘Our Cate’ as Australians are fond of calling her, rarely puts a foot wrong – whether it be in her films, personal life or red carpet style.
But the last fortnight has seen the actress pounding the pavement to promote her new film Thor: Ragnarok in a series of unusually ill-advised outfits.
National treasure status and dual Oscars aside, Blanchett’s fashion follies cannot go unnoticed, and the trouble began with her turn at Paris Fashion week on October 3.
For the Louis Vuitton show she donned a head-to-toe outfit from the French designer that featured a leather vest layered over a bold, blue-sleeved sweatshirt.

Paired with severe slicked-back hair, it called to mind Robin Wright’s character in Blade Runner 2049 – not necessarily a bad thing, but not exactly a good thing either.

This wasn’t Blanchett’s only questionable Vuitton get-up in Paris – she chose yet another statement sleeve for a store opening, this time putting it with a shiny green pinstriped blazer and over-long glorified track pants.

Things just keep getting weirder at the London Film Festival on October 6, where Cate rocked up in a ruffled Givenchy blouse that made her look like a glamorous, monochromatic sea creature.

Blanchett wrapped up the week in style at the Thor: Ragnarok premiere on October 10, where she shared the red carpet with co-stars Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston and the movie’s Kiwi director, Taika Waititi.

While her gold Gucci dress was more in line with the fabulously elaborate gowns she’s typically known for wearing, it was brought undone by her choice of footwear – a surprisingly banal pointed pump.
Blanchett wasn’t the only one to take a fashion punt at the premiere of the latest Marvel film (which, by the way, is scoring rave reviews) – pop star Miley Cyrus turned up to support her future brother-in-law, Chris Hemsworth, wearing a 60s-inspired floral dress.
The dress itself was cute, but Cyrus’s bright blue eyeshadow wasn’t so chic – nor were her boyfriend Liam Hemsworth’s dorky white sneakers.
