Dominant trends included the jewel tones of red and pink, statement earrings, tousled hair and sweeping skirts.

The Logies aren’t traditionally known for having high sartorial standards, but this year saw some surprisingly chic gowns heading down the red carpet.

Of course, it wasn’t all winners and grinners in the red carpet stakes. A handful of gowns left viewers scratching their heads.

Worst dressed

Gorgi Coghlan: The Project panellist should be celebrated for negotiating what one can only assume was a very awkward cab ride.

Unfortunately, not only was her massive Con Ilio gown difficult to photograph, it was incredibly difficult to manoeuvre.

Coghlan shared this photo on Twitter with the caption: "Okay. I'm seated. Can't move now."

Social media users were bewildered as to why anyone would choose to put themselves through that much tulle. How on earth do you go to the bathroom? Not to mention the number of people she nearly tripped up on the way to the stage after the show won Best News Panel or Current Affairs Program.

While Coghlan said she "loved" her gown, social media users questioned, "why would you wear that?".

Ita Buttrose: Oh, Ita. One frill would have been fabulous. Nine frills was too far.

Amber Sherlock: Was Sherlock’s strappy white gown that bad? No. Did we just want the opportunity to tell her to change? You betcha.

Yael Stone: The Netflix star might be one of our most talented exports, but this daggy dress makes her look like she’s auditioning for a role in a June Carter Cash biopic – and not in a good way.

Olympia Valance: Kudos to the Neighbours actress for trying something different, but the result is somewhere between Flamenco Barbie and really bad hotel curtains.

Best dressed

Dr Susan Carland: Dr Carland looked both elegant and comfortable – no easy feat – in her pale lilac gown from AY Couture. And that’s even with husband Waleed Aly rushing her out of the door.

Delta Goodrem: The songstress usually chooses floaty, feminine dresses, so this fiery red column gown was out of character for her, but a complete head turner.

Jessica Marais: The Love Child actress was dressed like a winner in stunning J’Aton Couture, with the gown’s statement sleeves adding just the right amount of drama.

Andy Lee and Rebecca Harding: The radio host looked dapper in his tuxedo, but his girlfriend was the standout in pale pink Capellazzo Couture.

Zoe Foster Blake: Dressing a baby bump is never an easy feat, but writer and beauty blogger Zoe Foster Blake rose to the challenge in this sunny floral gown from Con Ilio.
