Video countdown: The best and worst Oscars dresses of all time

In the words of the great Yves Saint Laurent: “Fashion fades, style is eternal.”
Each year the Academy Awards attract the most extravagant dress designs the major fashion houses have to offer.
Certain things are guaranteed: Jennifer Lawrence will always wear Christian Dior, Angelina Jolie will wear black and Meryl Streep will rock a pair of glasses in case she has to read out yet another acceptance speech.
Then there are the wildcards – Lizzy Gardiner’s American Express dress in 1995, Bjork’s infamous swan get-up and anything Lady Gaga wears.
These fashion risks can stand the test of time – a la Halle Berry’s sheer Elie Saab gown, for example – while others can crash and burn in spectacular fashion (cough, Whoopi Goldberg).
In the video above, we count down the 10 best and the 10 worst red carpet looks in Academy Awards history, from the beautiful to the bizarre.
