Movie lovers, get excited: we’re entering the greatest time of the year for new cinema releases.

But while you’re patiently waiting for the Boxing Day big hitters to come out, there’s a bunch of other films in cinemas right now that are worthy of your attention.

Here’s what to see and skip in December.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (November 17)

This whimsical fantasy film is author JK Rowling’s first screenwriting effort.

While it’s no Harry Potter, it’s still imaginative and loads of fun.

Adults will appreciate Rowling’s creativity and the performance of charismatic lead actor Eddie Redmayne, whilst kids will enjoy the multitude of adorable, hilarious and bizarre animals.

But parents beware: spooky special effects might freak out children under the age of 10.

The Founder (November 24)

If you’ve ever enjoyed a McDonalds meal, you’ll probably enjoy Michael Keaton’s new movie The Founder.

Keaton stars as Ray Kroc, the man often credited with creating the fast food empire.

However, there’s far more to the story and the movie reveals some fascinating history.

There’s a powerful message about the commercialization of war and some authentic performances in there, but they get lost in some messy storytelling.

Underworld: Blood Wars (December 1)

This vampire flick is the fifth instalment in a long-running franchise.

A word of warning: if you haven’t seen the previous four films, don’t watch it.

Whilst it’s got mass appeal thanks three Game of Thrones stars, gravity-defying fight scenes, Kate Beckinsale with superpowers and several big twists, it’s strictly for diehard fans only.

Verdict: Skip it

The Accountant (November 3)

The Accountant, starring Ben Affleck, is an action thriller for anyone who has grown tired of Hollywood’s stereotypical protagonist.

Instead, the film focuses on Ben Affleck’s socially inept yet brilliant character whose unusual gift for mathematics has lead to a dark and dangerous career path.

Verdict: See it
