British actor Daniel Craig might want out of the James Bond franchise, but the production company behind the blockbusters is reportedly desperate to keep him.

According to American gossip site, Radar Online, Sony Pictures has offered Craig an impressive US$150 million ($A197 million) to do another two films as the iconic special agent.

The 48-year-old actor has previously expressed extreme reluctance to continue playing 007 after 2015’s Spectre, which grossed more than US$880 million ($A1.15 billion) at the global box office.

“I’d rather break this glass and slash my wrists,” he told Time Out magazine in 2015 when asked if he’d return to the series after Spectre, his fourth Bond film.

“No, not at the moment. Not at all. That’s fine. I’m over it at the moment. We’re done. All I want to do is move on.”

However, Craig did admit that financial incentives could sway him.

“If I did another Bond movie, it would only be for the money,” he said.

With no clear replacement in sight (rumoured options have included Hugh Jackman, Tom Hiddleston and Idris Elba), Sony is reportedly desperately to lock Craig down for two more instalments while they search for his successor.

“Everyone knows how much executives adore him, and the idea of losing him at such a crucial time in the franchise isn’t an option as far as all the studio honchos are concerned,” a source told Radar Online.

Craig is certainly playing hard to get, with some reports suggesting the actor has already turned down the massive sum.
