Hundreds of people have turned out to watch Hollywood stars Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston film scenes from the latest instalment of the Thor franchise in Brisbane’s CBD.

The pair, who star as the titular character and Loki respectively in the Marvel superhero film, arrived on set on Monday morning, smiling and waving to nearby crowds.

Hemsworth was first spotted on-set wearing board shorts and a grey hooded jumper, but changed into jeans and a jacket as filming began.

The blockbuster’s crew, which has been shooting on the Gold Coast, will film sequences in the CBD from Monday until Thursday.

Mary Street, Albert Street and Margaret Street will all be affected by lane closures.

The streets have been transformed into New York City for the shoot, with yellow taxis and black and white police cars on set.

On Monday morning they filmed shots of Hemsworth and Hiddleston, as Thor and Loki, chatting together on the corner of Margaret and Albert streets.

Onlookers were kept behind fencing on the opposite side of Margaret Street to watch on, as extras walked across intersections and New York cabs and buses filtered down the street in the background to the film scene.

There was an absence of any action, with the main characters simply talking on the street corner.

After each take the fake traffic reversed back up the street and the pedestrian extras returned to starting places.

Traffic, deliveries, pedestrians, and hotel guests will have access to businesses during the closures, although there may short delays for public safety reasons.

The producers promised to keep the disruptions as brief as possible, and have asked for understanding and support.

Thor: Ragnarok will be released in cinemas in late 2017.
