Rose McGowan arrested for possession of cocaine

Rose McGowan, one of the most vocal accusers of disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein, has been arrested for cocaine possession.

The actress turned herself in, was arrested, and booked in Virginia before being released on a $5,000 unsecured bond for felony possession of a controlled substance.

The arrest warrant was obtained by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police Department and issued on February. 1.

The charges stem from a police investigation of personal belongings left behind on a flight that police say tested positive for narcotics.

McGowan tweeted about it in October after news of the warrant went public.

“Are they trying to silence me? There is a warrant out for my arrest in Virginia. What a load of HORSES—,” she wrote.

McGowan has been one of Hollywood producer Weinstein’s most vociferous accusers amid sexual harassment allegations against the now-disgraced producer.

The actress said Weinstein raped her, while the New York Times reported that McGowan had reached a settlement with Weinstein stemming from a hotel room incident at the Sundance Film Festival in 1997.

Weinstein’s representatives have rebuked claims, saying that “any allegations of non-consensual sex are unequivocally denied by Mr. Weinstein.”

She spoke publicly about the incident at the Women’s Convention in Detroit in October and addressed the culture of sexual abuse.

“I have been silenced for 20 years,” McGowan said at the convention. “I have been slut-shamed. I have been harassed. I’ve been maligned. And you know what? I’m just like you.”

McGowan last month said Twitter suspended her account after she  accused Ben Affleck of lying over his prior knowledge of Weinstein’s predatory sexual behaviour.

McGowan responded to Affleck’s claim that sexual assault allegations against Weinstein made him “sick” by accusing her former co-star of knowing about the producer’s behaviour for years.

“Goddamnit! I told him to stop doing that,” McGowan claimed Affleck said to her after it emerged she’d been a victim of Weinstein back in 1997. She added in her tweet about Affleck: “You lie.”

In another tweet she was even more blunt, telling Affleck to “f— off.” Within hours, McGowan’s Twitter account had been frozen.

She immediately took to Instagram to denounce the freeze: “TWITTER HAS SUSPENDED ME. THERE ARE POWERFUL FORCES AT WORK. BE MY VOICE,” McGowan wrote.

She included a message from Twitter saying she would only be able to send direct messages from her account unless she deleted tweets that violated Twitter rules.
