Elle Macpherson’s split from her husband of four years doesn’t appear to have taken a toll on her famous looks or positive perspective.

The 53-year-old businesswoman and mother-of-two has been living up to her old nickname – The Body – as she holidays in Mexico and the Bahamas.

Macpherson this week shared on Instagram a photo of herself strutting along the beach, revealing her famous lean legs and covetable shape in a one-piece swimsuit.

“Happy on the inside”, she said in a hashtag alongside the photo, despite her split two months ago from billionaire real estate developer Jeff Soffer.

Earlier this week, she was photographed leaping into the ocean in an aqua-blue bikini.

Macpherson has long claimed her seemingly ageless physique and face are down to an ‘Alkaline Diet’, plus 45 minutes of exercise and three litres of water a day.

The diet involves avoiding red meat, wheat, sugar, alcohol, coffee and dairy, while focusing on fruits and vegetables, almonds, and tofu.

The idea is to maintain the optimal pH balance of the body, under the advice of Macpherson’s nutritional doctor, Simone Laubscher.

Explaining the diet, Macpherson told Vogue it was “nothing too extreme”.

“Some of my favourite foods at the moment are: spinach, beetroot, goat’s cheese, pearl barley, kale, quinoa, pine nuts, halloumi cheese and I do eat fish but no red meat or chicken,” she said in 2014.

Macpherson swears by the diet so strongly she launched her own wellness empire, WellEco, with a range of alkalising food supplements.

She even carries a urine kit around in her handbag so she can test her pH levels throughout the day.

Qualified nutritionist Tracie Hyam Connor said the alkaline diet was undeniably positive.

“An acidic body generally promotes inflammation, and can harbour illness and disease,” Ms Connor told The New Daily.

She said high acidity levels often leads to fatigue and digestive issues, and the alkaline diet was good for the heart and slimming down. The diet would likely slow the ageing process, too.

Ms Connor said while the diet would not suit everyone and the body naturally produces acid anyway, it was still healthy to avoid acidic foods like processed foods and sugar.

“To be honest with you, limiting those foods in an everyday diet has benefits anyway,” Ms Connor said.

“I think this is what most health professionals would preach.”

Macpherson used to run nearly 13km every day, but has since toned down her exercise regime.

“I make sure I find at least 45 minutes in my day, usually for a sport outdoors, which is easy in Miami,” she told Hello magazine last year.

“I love to paddle-board, surf, swim or waterski. My advice is to find 45 minutes to move – even something simple; walk the dog; leave the car and walk to work.”

She’s also known to run along the beach and do 10 lunges every few minutes.

Macpherson also recommends everyone wear sunscreen daily, exfoliate head-to-toe, and get at least seven hours of sleep.

The 53-year-old has been holidaying with friends and her sons, Flynn, 19, and Aurelius, 14, whose father is Macpherson’s former financier fiancé, Arpad Busson.

Reports of her split from Soffer surfaced in June. The couple has been married for four years and have no children together. They lived in a US$26 million [$A33 million] mansion in Indian Creek, Miami, with her sons.
