American pop star Ariana Grande was “in hysterics” after a suspected terrorist incident at her concert at Manchester Arena in the United Kingdom on Monday (UK time).

The 23-year-old tweeted she was “broken” and “so so sorry” after the blast, which appeared to be a suicide bombing, left 59 injured and 22 dead – some of them children.

Police confirmed a man carrying an improvised explosive device also died at the scene.

While Grande was unharmed in the attack – she left the stage just before the explosion – a source close to her told TMZ the singer was “in hysterics” and “in no condition to perform” at her upcoming concerts.

Grande was scheduled to appear in London on Thursday and Friday before taking her show to Belgium, Poland, Germany, Switzerland and France.

However, TMZ reported the European section of the tour was on hold indefinitely while Grande came to terms with the tragedy.

The attack also casts doubt on the Australian leg of the tour, which is scheduled to commence on September 4 in Melbourne.

But a statement from Ticketek Australia dismissed reports the entire world tour had been cancelled as “pure speculation”.

“We are awaiting comment from the tour’s promoter, Live Nation, but unofficial statements that the Ariana Grande World Tour has been cancelled are pure speculation at this stage and such information has not been communicated by the promoter,” the statement said.

“All ticket sales revenues are securely held and we will post on this page any further factual information about this tour and, although some European dates later this week may be affected, a decision might not be made for some days yet regarding the Australian tour dates.”

Seats at Grande’s Australian concerts range in price from $101 to $325, with some tickets still available.

Grande’s concert security has already been the subject of some scrutiny this year.

In February, she was performing in Philadelphia, US, when a teenager made his way onto the stage in an attempt to meet her.

Although security were quick to remove him – with a seemingly unfazed Grande begging them to “please be gentle” – her fans questioned how the stage crasher had been allowed to get so close to her.

Grande, who was named one of Time’s 100 most influential people in 2016, has a predominantly teenaged fanbase thanks to her breakout role in the Nickelodeon series Victorious. 

The New Daily has contacted Grande’s tour promoter Live Nation for comment but they did not respond.
