Reality star Kim Kardashian’s former security guard has claimed her robbery was “a crime waiting to happen”.

Kardashian was robbed at gunpoint when five masked men entered her hotel room in Paris on Sunday night (local time).

The reality star and fashion plate reportedly had up to $14.7 million worth of jewellery on her.

Steve Stanulis, who worked for Kardashian in February and May this year, told The New York Post’s Page Six the robbery was either a “publicity stunt or an inside job”.

“That hotel is so secure, somebody must have tipped them off that she was alone inside, or shown them a way in,” he said.

He believed Kardashian’s prolific social media use was “her undoing”.

“When she is posting, ‘Here I am, and this is the $5 million ring I am wearing, here’s where I am going,’ you are basically inviting someone to rob you,” he told the paper.

Mr Stanulis claimed Kardashian and her husband, rapper Kanye West, required protection from armed security guards – something they allegedly didn’t want to pay for.

He said West often asked security to hang back, making it difficult for them to protect the couple should an attacker appear.

“She almost got killed at gunpoint, because she didn’t want to pay for an extra armed and well-trained person,” he said.

“It takes one minute of dialogue to figure out if someone really is a cop, they should not have got in the building.”

Celebrities defend Kardashian

The internet never takes long to turn a serious incident into a joke, and Kardashian’s robbery was no exception.

But a number of celebrities – including a few surprising names – jumped to the reality star’s defence.

They included comedian and late night host James Corden, known for lampooning the star in the past.

“People making jokes about Kim Kardashian tonight would do well to remember that she’s a mother, a daughter, a wife, a friend. Be nice or shut up,” he tweeted.

Singer John Legend’s wife, Chrissy Teigen, told her 2.8 million followers being a celebrity was at times unfair.

“Fame is interesting. Celebs are supposed to love you guys while also knowing you’d make a meme of our dead bodies to get retweets,” she wrote.
