Police have raided the Minnesota home of the late musician Prince on Wednesday morning (AEST).

About 12 police cars showed up at Prince’s famous Paisley Park residence with a search warrant, which has since been sealed, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The Carver County’s Sheriff Office posted on Twitter that the police activity was part of a “complete investigation” into the death of the beloved musician, but multiple sources are reporting the raid is more specifically in connection with his alleged prescription drug use.

The raid comes less than a week after the US Attorney’s Office and the Drug Enforcement Administration announced they have joined the investigation into Prince’s untimely death.

The Hollywood Reporter claimed an earlier search warrant revealed Prince had been treated by a Dr Michael Todd Schulenberg on April 7 and April 20 before his death on April 21.

The warrant did not reveal the specific prescriptions Dr Schulenberg gave Prince, or if he used them.

Entertainment site TMZ reported there was an “active federal investigation” into the doctors who prescribed medications to Prince, as part of a wider probe into dodgy doctors who over-prescribe, and drug-abusing patients who shop around until they find willing doctors.

Prince was found dead in the elevator of his Paisley Park home on April 21. He leaves behind a sister and five half-siblings.
