Three Aussie actors have been named among the cast for coveted roles in David Lynch’s Twin Peaks reboot.

Naomi Watts, Gia Cardies (Strictly Ballroom, My Big Fat Greek Wedding) and newcomer Eamon Farren (Red Dog) were listed in the 200-strong cast released by the eccentric director, according to Deadline.

Also in the list were original cast members David Duchovny, who played transgender agent Denise Bryson, and Kyle MacLachlan, who made his name as the brilliant, cherry-pie loving Agent Cooper.

Newcomers include Amanda Seyfried, Ashely Judd, Jessica Szohr and Jim Belushi, while, Sheryl Lee, who played the deceased beauty queen Laura Palmer, will also be back, as will Sherilynn Fenn who played seductress Audrey Horne.

A smash hit when it first aired in 1990, Twin Peaks was successfully marketed around the question “Who killed Laura Palmer?”

The murder investigation, headed up by outsider Agent Cooper, revealed the sordid, sexual underbelly of the sleepy mountain town Twin Peaks, setting an early standard for the movie-quality television that now dominates audience ratings.

Despite its success, the show was cancelled after two seasons, but a sequel has been constructed around a throwaway line from Palmer, who promised: “I’ll see you in 25 years” during a dream sequence.

Since its announcement, the series has been plagued by creative differences between creator Lynch and Showtime, with fans briefly worrying it had been cancelled last year.

However, principal photography is reportedly finished on the reboot, and release is now slated for 2017.
