Australia’s chosen Eurovision representative, 2013 X-Factor winner Dami Im, has released the song she will sing to wow the crowd at the 2016 song competition in May.

The South Korean-born songstress will perform ‘Sound of Silence’, a big pop anthem penned by Australian hit makers David Musumeci and Anthony Egizii of DNA Songs.

The song tackles the phenomenon of social media, with lines like: “Trying to feel your love through FaceTime.”

“The first time I heard ‘Sound of Silence’ I knew it was the perfect song for me to perform at the Eurovision Song Contest,” Im said.

“There are many ways to interpret the meaning around a song, but one theme that I relate to in Sound of Silenceis that of disconnection and being away from the people in my life that I love.

“We live in a world where it is easy to be connected every minute of the day but along with this connection you can feel alone and isolated. I can’t wait to perform it live in Stockholm and connect with a whole new audience.”

Eurovision 2014 winner Conchita Wurst announced Im as Australia’s representative earlier this month during her concert at the Sydney Opera House.

Last year, Australian Idol winner Guy Sebastian represented Australia for the first time at the 60th anniversary competition and scored fifth place singing a song he wrote titled ‘Tonight Again‘.

Although that appearance was slated as a one-off, it was confirmed in November 2015 we would once again be invited to perform at the European event.

However, unlike last year, Australia will not receive automatic qualification, meaning Im will have to compete for a place in final performance.

The Eurovision Song Contest will be broadcast on SBS on Friday 13, Saturday 14 and Grand Final Sunday 15 May, 7.30pm on SBS.
