However, fans have of popular segment ‘Plizzanet Earth’ on Jimmy Kimmel Live in which the rapper narrates over nature footage have taken the joke one step further with a Charge.org petition to have the ‘Drop it Like it’s Hot’ singer replace octogenarian Attenborough in the next series.

“Snoop Dogg has narrated some Planet Earth in the past but yo we need him to narrate full episodes,” reads the petition, which needs less than 5000 signatures to reach its goal.

Clearly a fan of the idea, the rapper himself has retweeted the petition, and urged his followers to also sign up.

‘Plizzanet Earth’ has become a popular segment on comedian Kimmel’s nightly show, showcasing Snoop Dogg’s trademark speaking style as well as his limited knowledge of the animal world.

In one episode, Snoop struggles to identify a number of otters as they try to intimidate a crocodile.

“He got em cornered right now OH! What is these animals? Is these mongooses? I ain’t never seen a ‘gator get punked by no mongooses!’

The 11 part series Planet Earth first aired in 2006, and was the most expensive nature documentary to ever be commissioned by the BBC.
