Eagles of Death Metal to perform in Paris

Eagles of Death Metal will return to the stage in Paris, less than one month after a performance was cut tragically short by militant extremists.

Band members will take to the stage on Monday morning (AEDT), for a special appearance alongside iconic rock band U2, in their first performance since the November 13 attacks in France.

They will join the Irish music legends for their final song at Paris’ AccorHotels Arena on December 6 and 7.

Co-founder Josh Homme – who rarely tours with the group – will join Jesse Hughes and the other musicians who were on stage at the time four gunmen entered the theatre.

In their first interview after the attacks, Homme vowed they would return to the French capital to finish their tour.

“We don’t really have a choice,” he told Vice.

“Not only for ourselves and our fans, not only for Nick Alexander [the band’s merchandise manager killed in the attack], not only because this is our way of life … it’s the human condition.”

Nearly 90 people were killed when armed extremists charged into the concert hall, spraying bullets at the crowd of about 1000.

U2 called off their performances, originally planned for November 14 and 15, after the attacks.

“So much that was taken from Paris on the tragic night of November 13th is irreplaceable,” Bono said in a statement announcing the dates.

“For one night, killers took lives, took music, took peace of mind – but they couldn’t steal the spirit of that city.”

The Bataclan Theatre was one of multiple locations hit by violent attacks on in mid-November.

In total, 130 people lost their lives, with three days’ mourning and a state of emergency announced by the French government.

Eagles of Death Metal have also rescheduled the rest of their European tour for early next year.
